Habit, mostly. These accounts set $8 or $10 when their whole audience was on campus and never raised it, even after the audience changed. Eleven dollars is the median and it buys more here than in a city tag. Two creators told me they keep the price low deliberately to hold their original subscribers.

Three of the five could, at a push. They post enough in the open feed to be worth a place in your timeline, and their locked material is priced sensibly. The other two lock everything past the welcome message, which makes the free door meaningless. Follow first, judge after a fortnight, then decide whether to spend.

All eighteen do. Nothing on this list is big enough to justify a chat team, and the replies come back in a personal register: slow on weekdays, quick late at night. Two run a standing rule of no messages during exam periods, which they post about, and I found that oddly reassuring.

Columbus if you want volume, Cincinnati if you want production. Both run to hundreds of accounts at similar prices, with deeper archives and no seasonal dips. Athens is worth searching for the opposite reason: a small list of pages that are still one person talking to a few hundred people who followed early.
